กูเกิ้ลออก service ใหม่ชื่อ Google Friend Connect

กูเกิ้ลประกาศผลิตภัณฑ์ใหม่เอี่ยมในงาน Campfire (ค่ำ 12 พ.ค. 2551 ณ แคลิฟอเนีย) ตอนนี้ยังเป็น preview อยู่ โดยตัว Google Friend Connect ช่วยให้เจ้าของเวบสามารถใส่ feature ทางด้าน social network ลงไปบนเวบไซต์ของตัวเองได้ง่ายๆ โดยไม่ต้องเขียน code

วิธีการนำไปใช้ก็ง่ายแสนง่าย แค่เอา snippet วางลงบนเวบไซต์ เท่านี้ก็ทำให้เวบไซต์ของเราเป็น social แล้ว

ความสามารถของ Google Friend Connect

  • ระบบการสมัครสมาชิก
  • ระบบการเชิญชวนเพื่อน (invite)
  • ระบบ contact list (กูเกิลเรียกว่า Friend Gallery)
  • ระบบการโพสข้อความและรีวิว
  • เอา Social Gadget (third-party app) ที่สร้างจาก OpenSocial developer community มาใช้ได้

นอกจากนี้ยังเชื่อมโยงกับ Social Network ยอดนิยมต่างๆ เช่น Facebook, Hi5, Orkut และ LinkedIn

Google Friend Connect is about helping the ‘long tail’ of sites become more social, said David Glazer, a director of engineering at Google.

“Many sites aren’t explicitly social and don’t necessarily want to be social networks, but they still benefit from letting their visitors interact with each other. That used to be hard. Fortunately, there’s an emerging wave of social standards — OpenID, OAuth, OpenSocial, and the data access APIs published by Facebook, Google, MySpace, and others. Google Friend Connect builds on these standards to let people easily connect with their friends, wherever they are on the web, making ‘any app, any site, any friends’ a reality.

ประโยชน์

  • Drive Traffic เข้ามายังเวบไซต์เรา
  • เพิ่ม engagement (ไม่รู้จะแปลคำนี้ยังไงดี นึกหาภาษาไทยที่ตรงๆ ไม่ออก)
  • ใช้เวลาในการทำเวบน้อยลง เพราะไม่ต้องเขียนโปรแกรม ไม่ว่าจะจ้างหรือเขียนเองก็ตาม

แต่น่าเสียดาย ตอนนี้ยังไม่เปิดใช้งาน ยังเป็น preview อยู่ (ประเทศไทยคงต้องรอกันนานหน่อย)
เมื่อกี้ลองสมัครดู แต่ว่า cancel ไป เพราะมีช่องนึงให้กรอกจำนวน page view ต่อวันด้วย แต่ว่าเวบตัวเองยัง page view น้อยอยู่เลย เอาไว้มี traffic มากกว่านี้ค่อยสมัครดีกว่า
